Epoxy resins

Features

Excellent properties of epoxy resins

Epoxy resins are well-balanced industrial material
and are used in a wide range of applications.

Features of one-component epoxy resins

  • Advantages

    • Easy-to-manage one-component
    • Low probability of skin irritation due to the curing agent
    • Excellent heat resistance
    • Excellent chemical resistance and electric insulation
  • Disadvantages

    • Needs heat for curing
    • Thick film curing can be difficult
    • Danger of not curing when used in a small gap
    • Storage requires in a cool condition.

"One-component" is the biggest advantage.

Features of two-component epoxy resins

  • Advantages

    • Cures at room temperature without heating
    • Excellent chemical resistance and electric insulation
  • Disadvantages

    • Inconvenience of measuring and blending of two agents
    • Probability of skin irritation due to the curing agent
    • Limited working life

The biggest advantage is that it cures at room temperature.

Curing method

Curing of one-component epoxy resins

The curing agent contained in the product reacts with base agent by heating and cures.

Curing of two-component epoxy resins

Cures by mixing base agent and curing agent.

Uses

Ideal for bonding, sealing, and potting applications where the following keywords are required.
"high strength" "high adhesive strength" "heat resistance" "chemical resistance" "low shrinkage" "electric insulation"

Adoption examples

  • Fixing magnets for high-power motors, etc.
  • Adhesion and potting of small electrical components
  • Adhesion of structural members

FAQ

Q

How much heat resistance does it have?

A

The guideline for adhesion is the glass transition temperature. The thermal decomposition temperature of epoxy resin is about 250 to 350°C.

Q

How do I peel off what I have bonded together?

A

It may be possible to peel off if soaked in a solvent or is heated above the glass transition temperature, but it is basically impossible.

Q

Why doesn't the epoxy harden?

A

The following causes are possible.
One-component: Insufficient temperature / time, sedimentation, separation
Two-component: Mixing ratio / mixing error, temperature / time shortage

Precautions for use

Precautions for one-component epoxy resins
  1. Take due care to avoid skin irritation caused by steam during heat curing.
Please use with appropriate protective equipment.
  2. Curing may proceed if stored at high temperatures. Store at an appropriate temperature.
  3. If it is used in small gaps, the curing agent component may separate and curing may not occur.
  4. A large quantity curing of liquid epoxy resins can cause heat and fire.
Precautions for two-component epoxy resins
  1. Properly measure and mix the main agent and curing agent.
  2. After mixing, it generates heat due to reaction heat.
  3. Contact may cause a skin irritation. Please use with appropriate protective equipment.
  4. Make sure pot-life after mixing two-component liquid epoxy resin.

Summary

Epoxy resins are one-component or two-component industrial materials that have respective advantages and can be utilized in a wide variety of industries offering excellent mechanical strength, heat resistance, and chemical resistance.
